Note entirely true, because it is not entirely open-source. Part of their infrastructure (server side I believe) is proprietary, which is a huge issue for privacy reasons.

You have to make an effort if you want security. It won't be handed to you on a platter.
You can travel during lockdown just have a good reason and don't travel through your 'own' country. As a foreigner they can't really do much to you if you have a legit reason for traveling. The govs are mostly harassing their own citizens...
Signal is better, although the phone number identifier is very bad.
I believe the Status app might have better security. It doesn't yet support video and all that jazz tho.
