I am not a US citizen, and not living in the US. If I make commissions which will be paid in the future by a US business, are those commissions taxed according to my tax status when the relevant work is done, or when the commissions are actually paid (which will be 6+ months after the relevant work was done)?
If the relevant tax status is the one when the commissions are paid to me, does that mean I can change my tax status by opening an offshore account shortly before the commissions are actually paid to me, and that offshore tax status will then apply to those payments, and decrease the amount of tax I have to pay if I set up things correctly?
