The FundRazr function is integrated with Facebook, enabling people to automatically share campaigns with friends and family, who can then make donations and post comments.

Users can also add photos and descriptions, track donations against goals and monitor progress from their iPhone.

The flagship product of privately owned Canadian outfit ConnectionPoint, FundRazr was launched in 2008 as a way to tap modern payments systems such as PayPal and social networks to make personal, political and charitable fund-raising easy.

Ironically, given PayPal's decision to block payments to whistle-blowing Web site WikiLeaks, FundRazr's front page features an appeal by Julian Assange' lawyers calling for donations to his legal defence fund through the system.

Separately, Square, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey's mobile payments venture, has dropped the 15 cent flat fee it charges merchants for each transaction. Users of the system - which taps a piece of plastic that fits in to the headphone jack of smartphones and acts as a card swipe for processing payments - will now just pay 2.75% of each purchase.
