I was talking to a friend. He just said that in his small village (~2000 ppl) there were already 20 CCTV cameras and now they are increasing it to 45 cameras.
This is a tiny country village somewhere in Italy with 0 crime.
He asked the Mayor why he's spending this silly amount of money on cameras. The mayor said "I know it's silly, but they are EU funds. We can use those funds only for surveillance", so he "had" to spend them or they would've gone back to EU and could end up paying penalties too, if not spent.
I think now there is a camera on every street of that tiny village, just like London. I imagine there are more cows and sheep on camera than humans :D
Big Brother has nothing on this.
