Malta residency + offshore company

Hi all,

What are your thoughts on running an offshore company (US llc, HK, UAE FZ, etc) while living full time in Malta as a non-dom.

How would one avoid POEM/PE as a online biz owner (typical one-man band)? Would having nominee directors in the foreign jurisdiction be enough?

I’m planning to move to Malta but the bureaucracy and costs of running a “fiscal unit” setup make it seem like it’s not worth it.

Is anyone successfully running a similar offshore setup in Malta? What would be the way to get as close to 0% tax as possible? EU VAT is also an issue (another reason I’d like to avoid having a Maltese company).

Are resident non-domiciled companies an option?

Thanks in advance

Hi Martin,

Thanks for welcoming me. I’m enjoying the OCT forum a lot.

In the last few days, I’ve read dozens of threads but I wasn’t able to get an answer to this specific issue, hence my new post.

The closest thing I found is a thread about having Malta residency + a US llc, but it’s not necessarily the same thing I’m referring to here. In this case I’m exploring different company types (not just the US LLC, although it is an option), and also ways to avoid the POEM/PE risk by having foreign directors/substance.

I hope it’s fine if I posted this here, but let me know if it isn’t.
