Very simple question: if I obtain US residency or citizenship, will my home country know about it?
Opening a bank account as a US resident/citizen shouldn't trigger any reporting as I would be be considered a US person for tax purposes, which would be correct. I haven't lived in my home country...
A UK/US dual citizen opening a bank account in the UK could simply provide their UK driver's license and a utility bill as proof of residence; the bank would have no idea they are also a US person. Alternatively, the dual UK/US resident could obtain US residency after having opened said bank...
