57 million USD found across the bank accounts of four Thai officials working for the tax office.

Gives you an idea of the scale of corruption in the country and the number of other officials who are also staking serious dough. Hopefully the other ones are smarter and are actually staking under their mattress rather than in Thai banks lol. :)

Article:
« Four Thai officials have been dismissed after authorities found more than two billion baht (US$57 million) in their bank accounts, with investigators calling the group “unusually wealthy”.

Corruption is rife in the Southeast Asian kingdom, with officials often accused of accepting small bribes and pay-offs, but sums of this magnitude are rare.

The approximately US$57 million was discovered in multiple accounts held by three women and a man who work in the Revenue Department in Samut Prakhan province near the capital Bangkok.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has referred the case to the attorney general’s office and requested that the Criminal Court for Corruption also investigate.

The four were “unusually wealthy”, said Sornchai Chuwichian, assistant secretary general and deputy spokesperson of the NACC.

Their listed assets – including their bank deposits – did not match their government incomes, Sornchai said in an NACC statement on Monday.

None could explain the source of the money, Sornchai said.

The man, Danai Damrongchaiyothin, had 1.1 billion baht (US$31 million) in seven accounts, while one of the women held more than 500 million baht (US$14 million) in five accounts.

A starting salary for a revenue official is less than US$450 per month.

All four have been dismissed from their government posts, according to the NACC statement. It did not mention whether they had been charged or arrested. »

They should have taken lessons from Ukrainian officials.

This is why this whole CRS and AEOI bvllsh1t is ONLY going to exacerbate these types of occurrences even more within the Tax Offices around the world. Many productive & wealthy people will end up "disappearing" and their wealth suddenly transferred into the coffers of one or several tax agency employees or even worse... "savages" like this:

Seriously, do any of us or any public servant really hallucinate that if Mencho "grabs" a tax agency employee (or several) and "asks" him/her to get our CRS/AEOI documents concerning our bank accounts overseas that these tax agency employees will put up a fight and refuse???

PS. For those who believe in fairy tales, I have a nice oceanfront & beachfront mansion in Nebraska with billions of barrels of underground crude oil to sell and all they have to do is send me 100 Bitcoins as a deposit and they can pay me the balance, 5000 bitcoins, later AFTER they have extracted the oil and sold it. :p
