I have a 0 EUR balance in my Mistertango account and sent a ticket to close it so as not to incur the the 4.99 monthly fee they charge to non EU residents.

They wrote back a few days later and said they would only close the account after I paid the 4.99 owing. I checked and they charged me the 4.99 AFTER I sent the ticket. I said I would not be paying the fee but they still refused to close my account.

Rather then continuing to incur monthly fees until eventually going to collections I figured I'd just wire them the money and get it over with. Unfortunately I found out after the fact that they don't accept wire transfers so I lost the money (probably eaten up in bank fees when they bounced it)

I can't do a SEPA deposit because I don't have another EU account. My only option is Bitcoin but that will cost about 14.16 for the trading fee on there end plus the 5.00 deposit fee to non EU residents plus the 4.99 I actually owe them.

Any advice? Should I just ignore it at this point?

Does your balance showed negative value?

I have personal+ plan and dont use their account for a few monthes without acitivity (have 0 balance too).
They do not charge me for negative balance...

I don't think EMIs are allowed to have any customers with negative balance. That would be technically loaning you money, which they cannot legally do.
The interesting question is whether they do record that you owe them money somewhere. If so, they will charge the entire owed sum when you have enough.

OP: I'd just forget about it if I were you. You're not even an EEA resident, what can they possibly do to you over 4.99 EUR...

My balance is zero but there is an "outgoing payment" of 4.99. My concern with just leaving this is that every month a 4.99 charge will be added on until eventually it's big enough that someone cares.

You have done enough to try and pay the debt of. Write them an email and CC the regulators explaining your situation and use the subject heading "formal compliant procedure initiated" and request that MT provide the precise legal provisions in law that allow this, what date this exact provisions came into force, under which precise law they are allowed to charge a fee and the consequences of not being able to pay. Bottom line make them work their a*s off to gather this information and hopefully they will soon write it off smi(&%.

Your not even in the EU so coming after you will not be cost effective at all...lol.
