Dutch police able to request IP-addresses and phone numbers associated with Telegram accounts

Session is excellent. But for those in your circles who are open trying new apps but find Session too daunting, Signal (Signal Messenger: Speak Freely) is a less private (phone number required) but easy-to-use while still secure alternative for instant messaging. Both are frequently recommended by reputable IT security experts.

Also Matrix, for replacing Slack/Discord type apps. Paid or DIY.

smi(&% rof/% Typical Dutch bullsh1t delusions of grandeur lie!

It's to scare gullible people as usual! Also, the Openbare Ministerie got their a*s handed to them in that case: Rechtspraak.nl - Zoeken in uitspraken

I read the whole court opinion! It's just smoke & mirrors!

You can translate the summary yourself:
"Vrijspraak voor verkoper juwelier van witwassen van € 505.500,-. Geen medeplegen of medeplichtigheid aan witwassen. Niet is komen vast te staan dat verdachte wist of redelijkerwijs moest vermoeden dat de geldbedragen waarmee aankopen van sieraden en horloges giraal werden betaald afkomstig waren uit enig misdrijf. Verdachte was niet verplicht tot verdergaand onderzoek."

The best is to use an APP without a telephone number and ALWAYS use a VPN without a log to confabulate. ;)

PS. The Dutch tried to get a WeChat number and IP during the COVID mayhem and Tencent told them to go pound sand by completely ignoring them. The Dutch are still waiting for an answer three years later. The target was warned by Tencent rof/%

The problem with Session is that how can they make the app free, yet run very expensive nodes to route the messages through. Maintenance costs for the app would be extremely high without any source of income or funding.
It still is a better choice than others, just keep in mind that the conspiracy in the cybersecurity field is that it could be a possible honeypot.

In the recent years, Ive learned from quite a bunch of personal victims that the Dutch ruling system is one of the worst you can think of.
They seemingly operate in a hybrid stealth mode too so even many people dont get to know the very dark and authoritarian side until its way too late.

Be it for just tax matters or any kind of personal freedom related things, they have a wide bunch of sleazy tricks up their sleaves which would make your average banana republic jealous.

100% this! With the Dutch, the first thing you MUST do is to identify the perpetrators. Once you know their names, it's over. The key thing is to sue them overseas, preferably in US federal courts under e.g. the effects doctrine.

Read a DOJ indictment a while back, they were able to get logging from expressVPN

So they are all secretly logging data.. what ever they say.

This is a state that opened their arms to the Nazi's, so not surprising.

I believe the servers are located in Five Eyes (Australia?) which is questionable. Not sure, but I believe I read some fishy stuff about Session a while ago.
Yes, I broke it down here:
