Hi forum,

I'm looking at potentially moving out of Canada with my family (wife, kids, a few pets). I'm looking for a sunnier place, something with more freedoms than we have here. For many reasons, I can't just hop over to the United States. I'm looking for something ideally with English speaking culture, though I can brush up on my French if needed. A decent educational system, health care system is a bonus. I'd be exiting the country with high 6-figures cash, plus another mid-7 in assets spread across businesses, investments, etc.

I'm looking for places that also have strong business environments, such that immigration may be possible and made easier, hence my post here! I'm indifferent really on the location, as long as it provides the best solution for my stated needs, I'm happy. I can work remotely anywhere in the world personally, my wife is a licensed moritician so they can work in most places and get a license to practice, exam as long as the Canadian-based credentials and schooling is recognized.

Where's the best spot to go?

You need to provide more information if you want concrete help.
What types of investments, assets, or businesses are you considering, and in which jurisdictions?
The countries you can choose from are heavily influenced by these factors, as you would need a country with a good DTA .
Off the top of my head, I would suggest New Zealand:
- Strong DTA
- Recognizes most Qualifications from Canada
- 48 months tax exemption on foreign income
- Good weather
- Part of the Commonwealth
- Common Law (important if you have trusts, etc.)

Sounds like Switzerland
-great educational system
-top notch health care system (I have spent 5 days at a hospital in Zurich, can confirm)
-strong business environment, sure
-immigration possible, yeah with money totally possible
-can brush up French if needed - yeah but you dont want to live in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, thats like the socialist part with higher taxes

Or Ireland, there you get English speaking culture, but little bit worse on everything else compared to Switzerland. You can be non-dom though, which is great if you have assets outside Ireland as there would be no tax on these.

Maybe Singapore which is up there in terms of education, health care and business environment, and they speak English even if it's not quite an English culture. Problem with Singapore is that immigration is difficult.

Or finally the UAE, English speaking, super-international, by far the easiest immigration of all these countries. Very good health care, good business environment (but not good jobs market), decent education, but maybe one doesnt want one's children to have uni degrees from the UAE, but they can be sent to study elsewhere. Best tax wise of the bunch. Got to handle the heat in the summer though or spend the summers elsewhere.

I do a large amount of IT consulting, MSP-style hosting services. I'd be looking to invest in more companies in the same industry.
