Paraguay residence - my journey

You can use bank statements from Py Banks or set up a postpaid mobile plan (you will receive an invoice with the address every month).
You can also use your actual rental agreement, wherein the legal address is specified. By the way I was able to set up a postpaid plan both in Peru and in Paraguay upon arrival as a tourist (Peru: Movistar, Paraguay: Claro). My Paraguay plan is currently about 75,000 Guaranies per month (just under US$10), comes with 7 G, unlimited calls and SMS in Paraguay and no roaming charges for up to 30 days anywhere in Americas i.e. from Canada to Argentina and all countries in between. It does have a time limit of 30 days. And yes it works fine, tried it in Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, USA and Canada.

When were you able to set up this plan with Claro (as a tourist)?

And how do you

I am in the process of applying for a Paraguay temporary residence permit with the help of @NewHorizonsParaguay
So far he has been very patient with me, answered all my questions and provided many useful information. I am going to be in Asuncion soon, with the objective of completing the whole application process in 30 hours. I hope it can be done since I’ve an appointment with jungle monkeys shortly thereafter.
All what he needed so far are copies of my criminal record certificate, birth certificate and passport. He will take care of the translations. He’s also taking care of my diet. So it seems I’m in good hands.
You also need to provide a scan of your signature and a passport size picture.
Don't you need an apostille of the birth certificate?

Regarding naturalizing there, you can have dual citizenship with Spain and Italy. But regarding renunciation, I heard it isn't enforced. This is the case with a lot of countries that have some renunciation clause. Either they never find out about your other citizenships, or even if they do, they ask you to declare you will renounce but then never check if you do.

Ohh and in Paraguay right upon my arrival - January 2022. It was in Asuncion and the guy spoke Jopara to me (local dialect - a mixture of Spanish and the local native language Guarani), so it was really hard for me to understand. Once I pointed out to him that maybe he could speak Spanish to me, he had apologized and switched to Spanish, well a Paraguay version of Spanish. All they wanted is a copy of my passport and a one month advance payment so around Gs 60,000 (under US$7).

Can an airbnb booking be enough ,maybe to point the bank to that address or something, basically you are after a utility bill only right? We can open bank account on Tourist visa isnt it?
Based on my personal experience opening a bank account in Paraguay is really hard. Generally banks do not want to open accounts for foreigners with a temp residency. Even for me (I am a permanent resident) it was a challenge, but thanks to my friends' connections I was able to open 3 basis accounts. I heard that Sudameris is quite open to foreigners. However, this being Paraguay, there are ways if you know the right people. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Banco familiar and ueno are easy once you get your cedula. I think Itau could be an option too.

Basic accounts are easy (1k monthly limit) = no credit cards, no international transfers, and no USD accounts.
For real banking, you need contacts or economic history in the country. 40% UENO discounts on credit cards have been quite tasty lately tho :-D

A lot of crypto-foreigners here live bankless. There are no problems. I would only argue that they miss out on a lot of those credit card discounts. 25% on groceries, 30% here, 40% there,it adds up.

I don't know about the hacking. To me, it seems pretty much the same as EU banks (tokens...).

However, I know of one scam scheme local P2P vendors use on Binance. It does not work with all banks, but with some, yeah. They know your bank account and the number of your cedula, so they try to log in to your bank account multiple times, which triggers a block. Then, they send you a photoshopped screenshot of payment on Binance and demand you release crypto.

It’s always good to have a bank account tho. If you make under certain amount you don’t even need to pay tax or you pay a small very amount. I just use 1/2 accounts for 1-2 k a month. Discounts are good if you plan to stay around.

The tax free amount for residents of Paraguay is 80 million Guaranis per year (as of now 1 US = 8,000 Gs). If you make less than that, you do not need to pay taxes not even file a report. However, once you are over that threshold only once, you will also have to file every year regardless if you make less than the limit. This info is from my accountant.

And agreed, I have now 3 local bank accounts but all of them open through friend of a friend who works in the bank.

That’s IRP - personal income tax.

As an independent with RUC number you should charge IVA (vat/sales tax) if you make money within the territory, and pay it every month, if you have more income than expenses.

Mine told me after one year of declaring less you can stop filing. Idk all accountants say different things here.
