Dubai is as good as when you do not have trouble with law.
If you mess/caught with law even god can not help you.
he did not mess with the law , he got screwed ..
“After working in Dubai for four years as an employee, I wanted to start my own start-up there last year”, Johan tells his story. “I was looking for local investors and a man from a powerful family showed an interest. We started in good spirits in August, but after three weeks I received a message that my co-investor withdrew all the money from the account. He seemed to have a hard time with the uncertain covid situation and chose eggs for his money." The local investor, who appears to have a lot of power in Dubai, went to the police at the same time and accused Daumerie of a breach of trust. “But no evidence for that has been found. On the contrary, the evidence is there that he has defrauded me.”
Nevertheless, the competent authorities in Dubai deprived Daumerie's passport and imposed a travel ban on him, as a result of which the businessman has been locked up in a hotel room for ten months. “This situation is untenable. I am now here illegally in the country and if I leave my hotel I risk being arrested by the police.”
93 seconds
During those ten months, Daumerie kept a low profile and, together with his lawyer Hanan, built a file that proves his innocence. Last week, the businessman got his chance to defend himself in court, but his process did not go smoothly there either. “I was given a total of 93 seconds to say my name and declare that I am innocent. My lawyer wasn't even allowed in and I couldn't make anything substantive. The next day I was told I had been found guilty. I will soon have to go to jail and will be released again when I have paid 230,000 euros. All based on an oral complaint. That man appears to come from a high-ranking family and also exerts influence on the court.”
"My trial is not fair and I feel like I'm stuck here forever," Daumerie sounds hopeless. “Meanwhile, I know that some politicians in Belgium are also aware of my situation. I hope they can get the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take action.” In the meantime, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that they are aware of Daumerie's file and that the embassy is monitoring it. “But the embassy says they can't do much for me. However, I don't get a fair trial. I am hopeless and now hope that more support and help will come from Belgium.”
