nice move, I guess they want some noise, they are not amongst the top 10 cloud providers, over 60% of cloud infra. providers are run by 4 companies there are many other alternatives.

I think because they are among the cheapest (mostly because they use home computer grade components, not server computer grade ones that are more expensive) and probably because they do less KYS than others. They've been hosting a lot of pirated content as well.

majority of nodes i know where running on hetzner.
nodes needed a lot of RAM which you could get the cheapest on hetzner.
also they have great ping from frankfurt which made your node responding very fast and missing only a few blocks per month
