Hawala Provider

Does anyone have any contact for a Hawala Service, between India and Malaysia? Is this something I could learn more about if I had the gold membership? Thanks.
Brings back memories... This was my prelude to the digital currency world in the '80s! I was introduced to the Hawala system when I had to travel and install hospital biomedical equipment in underdeveloped countries. The first scholar I spoke to about this was a guy named J. Orlin Grabbe (RIP). Then he introduced me to David Chaum (DigiCash). Good times indeed.

PS. Check contacts in the Middle East & Asian countries. They seem to be BIG in this. ;)

Hawala contacts exist all over the world, in every country on this globe. The big question is how to find them, as they obviously don't openly advertise their services on the streets. I also assume no one would be foolish enough to write in this thread about being such a person (which I wouldn't believe anyway) or where to find one.

You need to be introduced to a Hawala person by someone you trust, who knows one. Be wary if you are contacted here on OCT via PM by supposed Hawala operators, and be cautious if you decide to send money to them.

Just a word of adviceeek¤%&

You're right. I have contacts in the Middle East, but Malaysia has been a bit harder to find. Thanks anyway.

I did a quick search on the Hawala money system and got the following information. It is outright illegal and is used in many instances to finance terrorism, drug sales, and human trafficking - in fact, that's the primary purpose of its existence. Just asking about such a thing in a public forum, I think, is foolish, and I must strongly distance myself from it.

The hawala money transfer system is an informal method of transferring funds from one location to another through a network of brokers (hawaladars) without the actual movement of money. Originating in South Asia and the Middle East, it is based on trust and the extensive use of connections such as family relationships or regional affiliations.

Transactions are facilitated by the hawaladars, who receive money from a sender in one location and instruct an associate in another location to pay the equivalent amount to the recipient. This system is fast, cost-effective, and relies on a simple honor system to ensure obligations are met. Although widely used for legitimate purposes, its lack of formal documentation and regulatory oversight also makes it susceptible to use for money laundering and other illicit activities.

OK.... Are you familiar with the well-known economist J. Orlin Grabbe?

I suggest you read what he wrote on or about 2001/2002 regarding the Hawala system and send it to Congress...
Here it is: In Praise Of Hawala - The Hidden Wiki

PS. Someone (NOT me  ) posted it to the hidden-wiki.org in 2019, since Dr. Grabbe passed away a while back. After you have done reading it, please let us know what you think... ;)

Dr. James Orlin Grabbe was NO slouch either.... the man had an MBA from Wharton and a PhD from Harvard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Orlin_Grabbehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Orlin_Grabbe

How to find Hawala easily:
- Find ethnic stores that do business with the country of interest. Make friends with the owner. In your case find an Indian goods store in Malaysia.
- Become friendly with the owner. Complain to the owner about the fees of sending money to your relatives.
- Ask the owner if he can do you a favor and send money to your friend. If they engage in the practice they will know what you are asking for.

For high amounts why Hawala and not Chinese shadow banking? Much easier if you are moving large sums. Simply go to a casino in China, buy chips, you give the chips to a shadow bank, they wire the money where ever you want it.

Due to currency exchange laws in China this is how many people move unlimited funds out of China.

Such a system can be used for both good purposes and, indeed, bad ones, much like how crypto has been and is being used. It's the ultra-criminals who ruin it for the rest of us, those who use the systems to sell their crappy drugs, trafficking, and other activities that harm innocent people.
