"The most affordable tax-free country in the GCC and the entire world to relocate to in 2024 is none other than the enchanting Oman."

Really? ns2

Does anyone know if this is the case in reality? I did a quick check on expatistan and it appears fairly cheap - compared to other tax free countries.

Oman definitely flies under the radar a bit. It's not as exciting as UAE/Dubai, falling behind even Qatar/Doha in terms of things to do and things going on (business, culture, entertainment, events).

It's not tax-free, though. There's a 15% tax rate applicable to some businesses. Personal income is still tax free (for now at least), though, so it depends on your circumstances.

Life in Oman is generally more relaxed and society in most aspects more liberal than its neighbors.

IIRC, it's illegal to drive a dirty car in Oman. If you don't keep your car clean, you risk getting fined.

It popped up on my feed. I was like why they really think they are nomad friendly place? Yeah corporate tax situation is not ideal but may work for some digital nomads who plan on never leaving their rented studio apartment...lol.

And remembering your arguments regarding Dubai, Oman is no better

Point taken

Can a westerner blend in with gulf culture? Speaking Arabic is no easy feat for one thing...

Speaking Arabic is a massive advantage but most non "gulf nationals" will live in expat areas where English will be widely spoken. As long as you attempt to understand some of the culture like knowing when Ramadan is etc and never express any criticism of the government you maybe fine. However get entangled in the legal system then your most likely screwed.

Looks interesting if you want to live everyday fear to do something wrong.

Looks pretty much like Yemen mainland and its beauty marries the the beauty of the Yemen's Socotra island. I guess that's because they are neighbors.

Yemen's Socotra is what Paradise must look nice and thats coming from someone living in the Bahamas.

P.S But yeah doing something wrong scares the hell out of me. Paying no income tax but getting lynched by a local cause I accidentally touched his wife does not appeal to me....lol.

I also live in a such a paradise with no aeoi, oced. Never paid taxes in my life. For expats, all income is tax free :)

Very similar to Socotra but no islam here. Everyone loves Rasputin. Women here would say, "I want to seduce you"

Now that the Russians have left Europe, they could take over Oman along with the Chinese and the English - it would make perfect sense - Sun, plenty of booze, and Money. Then they can always have a fresh fight if one of them steps out of line.

Oman launches long-term residency program for expat investors.

P.S I did not know their currency is so strong :(.

$1 = 0.38 OMR at time of writing.

Oman is increasingly interesting to me. Assuming they keep income tax free, I believe that many of those in the UAE will consider residency in Oman once their small business relief in the UAE is exhausted. The cost of living, climate, and lifestyle seem enticing, and combined with an Estonian company it could be very tax friendly.

Granted that Oman has a bit better Democracy Index than UAE, the issue with dictatorships in general is the law and rules unreliability. It appears that anything can change faster than anywhere in this part of the world.

Great when changes are in your favour but in the other way you end up being screwed quicker and you'll have to move on at costs.

For one who looks for long term stability maybe rather look for a country not strictly ruled by a single supreme leader.

Fair points.
On the other hand what's good about so called democracy when you don't have private property and/or are taxed to death.

Your democracies are in most cases socialist countries in transition.

Marxists argued for the establishment of a socialist society as a transitionary phase towards communism, where there would be no classes, private property, or oppression, and resources would be distributed based on need.

Agreed.
In my opinion, the least worse solution is currently all the mismanaged corrupted countries that won't bother a relatively wealthy foreigner keeping low profile.
