Russian President Putin announces military operation in Ukraine

Kiev is set to receive American Patriot missile batteries. How will this change the battlefield in Ukraine?

The Patriot missile system (especially PAC-3) is, without any exaggeration, a state-of-the-art product of the US military industrial complex. Presumably, if the White House decided to send such advanced missile defense weapons to Ukraine, the issue of supplying Kiev with Western-type battle tanks like the German Leopard 2 won’t take long to resolve.

Along with the second Patriot battery, Berlin will also send 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, as reported by German Federal Government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit. This is another big step towards equipping the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Western weapons.

It’s worth noting that after receiving Patriot missile systems and heavy armored vehicles, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be just a step away from getting F-15 and F-16 fighter jets.

The Patriot batteries are invaluable for Kiev. These systems have, as military specialists say, the potential for non-strategic missile defense. This capability will be particularly useful for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It’s an effective means of combating manned aviation, sea-based and air-based cruise missiles, tactical ballistic missiles, and operational-tactical ballistic missiles.

The Patriot has a chequered history in combat and has failed multiple times to produce the goods.

It's also highly technical to operate and takes a crew of 90 men to get it running. Who will maintain it?

And it has a large footprint. At least with HIMARS it can hit and run. It will get destroyed in no time at all, and the crew along with it.

A balanced report would call this a death sentence for anyone who is unfortunate enough to get drafted to work on it.

They also don't say which Patriot they're getting. Brand spanking new or an old shitter?

And F16 close? Do me a favour. What's the training time on those? It will be over by then.

I suppose at least the Marder is better than those AMX 10 that France were offering up. 105mm and wheeled vehicle, good luck!

All this nonsense does is prolong the suffering.

Kinda sad that your average offshorecorptalk viewer can't see it. But then again many of them did take an experimental product just so they could go on holiday so what do ya expect.

The West may not know of the real numbers actually. It's because the survival of Ukraine is dependent by propaganda. With no propaganda -- help the West and US will terminate quickly. Hence "Ukraine is winning"

Whereas for Russia there's not too much of need to yell from every roof that it's winning.

Actually the more deluted picture of the conflict West and US have, the quicker they'll get defeated by Russia.

Not too long ago they all thought that Russia was a country-gas station and its economy would crumble in in ... 1 month. Not, 2 months! Not 5 months. Not.... just a little bit... more .

If it was a country-gas-station, how come that you -- West and US -- wouldn't have defeated it still? A gas-station! You then are BOTH even weaker :p than that gas station.

The gas station has multipe types of ultasonic missles. To which US and West can only set against .... :p LGBT movement.

Iran too has created an ultasonic missle recently.

Russian plans to boost its standing army to some 1.5 million troops are necessary for its safety, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

=> New Russian patriots canon fodder <=

The interesting part here is: They are just planning to increase the number of men being active in the Armed Forces. This increase of men under weapons will be natural process over a period of at least three years time.
The nonsense Ukraine claimed in mid-December that Russia plans a second mobilisation can again be dismissed as a poorly coordinated Western campaign to steer panic among young Russians.
Well, it did not work anyway: The Russians who wanted to leave have long left their motherland :p

It is a cheap and almost godsent situation for the weapons industry of the Western Hemisphere, not only financially. They have the unique opportunity to test weapons under real-war conditions -> https://edition.cnn.com/2023/01/15/politics/ukraine-russia-war-weapons-lab/index.html
Very sad. With this attitude there will never be any piece negotiations.

There are still some RU people looking for exit options - in our experience these are people who cannot fund the move so far from own resources, so they are actively seeking a new foreign income source / employment before making the jump.
Indeed. And since the group of people you mention will hardly find a job abroad they will simply stay in Russia - which is anyway best for them.
The wealthy and affluent (who wanted to leave) left between February and June. Than came the mobilization wave in September which revealed how poorly funded most of these young Russians are. Many went to Georgia, burning through their savings and selling everything they have at rock bottom prices. Amazingly naive and shortsighted people.

The mobilisation was only for those who had previously served in the Russian military.

Who are these young Russians that were up for mobilisation?

Look at the ratio. It's not good at all. 1 to 8 ratio.

Ukraine crash: Ministers killed as helicopter comes down near nursery
That looks dodgy a day after Arestovic resigned.

The ones you mention are the ones who were up for mobilisation. Nobody else!
However, as we all know it's a difference to be faced with a real war or to just being trained in an army camp.
How old were the young ones that left?

Do you realise that the west knows that Ukraine is losing badly and they may do something absolutely stupid to save face? Everything the west has done so far in Ukraine has failed miserably. Only idiots and cheerleaders think otherwise.

Russia obviously sees it. It depends if anyone sane is still operating in Washington. If not, I expect no-fly zone and full-scale war. It won't be pretty.
