I went to a Vodafone store to get a new internet line to my apartment , and they wanted a NIE (foreigner resident number).
I would really like NOT to get a NIE, it costs money and it’s a massive invasion of privacy.
Do you guys know a way around that?
How bad il it is to give them a fake number? Is there a better way?

Nothing will happen with a fake number but they might ask for a picture of the actual document.

Digi or Simyo might let you get internet without NIE, only with the passport.

There are local sales/installation agents that don't go directly via head office. Try to find one of the local advertisements/flyers posted in your mailbox/neighbourhood with just a mobile phone number - not only did I not need an NIE (although I had one), they didn't even ask, as they just wanted their sales commissions. Alternatively, a 4G/5G router with an unlimited data sim.
