There was a recent EU wide law that mandated that accountants and consultants are obliged to share any offshore schemes they suggest to clients to local IRS bureau.

What was name of this law and does it apply to advocates and lawyers as well?

If you hire a lawyer, is he obliged to share data on any offshore structures or is he bound by lawyers secrecy?

Yup see my whole thread about EU DAC6 below

DAC6 - with respect to lawyer's some services are covered by LP others are not. In the event of LP the lawyer still has obligation to inform taxpayer and other intermediaries of their obligations under DAC6 and mention the fact that he is covered for X services by LP.

Thank you guys. It seems that if you just want to hire a lawyer to help with damage mitigation from unpaid tax liabilities, then this law shouldn't apply, right?
You need to check local law if there are any exceptions, but attorney-client privilege (and variations thereof) generally takes precedence over DAC6 meaning no reporting would occur.
