I've seen it happen in southern France quite regularly too, even more often than in Colombia actually. Usually girl gangs (Yes they exist lol, they basically just steal and fraud tourists all year long and travel around by train) from Marseille or Lyon that go to the french riviera in the summer, meet up tourists and work up many creative ways to steal all their s**t usually by drugging them/getting them drunk or by going back to their place, sleep with them and wait till the guy is asleep or showering to take off with his wallet, money, laptop, other expensive belongings. I got a friend that got tricked by one of these girls in Cannes once and lost 5000 euros in cash and his macbook pro. According the the cops she was very active and her group basically hit every tourist town in the south during the summer time, then they go to Paris during the winter months to do the same.

They usually sell the laptops/stolen electronics quickly so by the time the cops run into them they don't have enough evidence to even arrest them since they have no way to prove the money is stolen. Make sure you're careful when you match with a 10/10 model type while in France or Spain, especially if she's acting more interested than the usual girl you match with, that's usually a red flag. Sometimes they're just prostitutes willing to bait and switch but there's also the risk of them being fraudsters. If you hang out with these dating app girls and you got no way to vet them:

1. Protect your cash, hide it well.
2. If you got an expensive watch, just because it's a wealthy town doesn't mean nothing can happen to you, hide it in a safe or something when not using it. Same for your passport and other important belongings.
3. If you got a laptop, make sure it has a password and no sensitive files on it while you're abroad, so if you get it stolen it won't be much of an issue.

There's also cameras which help the police find enough evidence for arrests so they'll be much less likely to steal from you if you stay at a hotel. Most of the cases where tourists get robbed are in airbnbs with minimal surveillance, no cameras and no witnesses.
5. Don't show off your wealth, if you use dating apps, make sure the girls match you for your looks, not for your lifestyle.

I was thinking to telling girls I work for local police, lol. for a few months, like an ITspecialist, teaching local police to detect, stop and prosecute international frauds? But in this crazy world, who knows, maybe fraudsters will happy to get me.
