I imagine what would happen if they also check THC levels during this test...
Islam does not like drugs. It is after all in their culture. Same goes for Asia which has unreasonably high punishment. But drugs in Asia are political (think of opium war etc.) rather than personal like in the West.

Hashish has been very popular in Islamic countries for more than a millennia and still is.

Having said that I wouldn't never ever take my chances in any of these countries nor in Asia

I think there is much more to the stories we are not being told and UK press if famous for defaming UAE in this way. There is a guy who brings baking grade poppy seeds from Europe (if you can't miss 0.02 you can't miss a full bag of poppy seeds either being brought more than once) and he was never held or anything. In fact he was not aware until I made him aware.

There are people who have been living here for more than a decade and somehow nothing happened to them despite plenty of travel trips including trips to Amsterdam for obvious reasons.

Also never say never. I know a very rich guy who was always against muslim countries and somehow since recently he seemed to forget what he was saying years ago. He is a regular to Dubai now with his family :)
I have converted many clients who were totally against Dubai. If you follow the rules and keep your opinion on the government to yourself you will find a world of opportunities.

You don't have to believe in everything you read @Martin Everson :)

Dubai is a glitzy third world dictatorship with no due legal process run by some malnourished horse loving arab dude who beats his wife (she sought asylum in UK) and locks up his daughter (she ran away but got captured) :(.

Who needs basic human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion (or none at all), free elections, due process, and so on, when you can save on tax with little to no questions or requirements. ;)

Did they end up in prison?
Violations of the public decency laws, including for nudity and other 'lewd behaviour', carry penalties of up to six months in prison and a 5,000 dirham (£983) fine

Read that the UAE has highest number of VPN downloads in the world in 2020. 3.8m UAE residents downloaded VPN software in first half of 2020..lol.

Considering using a VPN in Dubai is risky and they can accuse you of anything once you have it installed, I guess there are a lot of brave people conf/(%.

----- quote start

Article 1 of Federal Law number 12 of 2016 on the Cybercrimes as, any person who is found using a fake computer network protocol address by using a false address or a third-party address with an intention to commit a crime or prevent its discovery shall be subject to temporary imprisonment and a hefty fine of UAE Dirhams five hundred thousand (AED 500,000) to UAE Dirhams two million (AED 2,000,00). However, the TRA has clarified that VPN can be used by companies, institutions and banks to gain access to internal resources are not unlawful, provided such access is not done for any illegal purposes. The UAE Government restricts the access to pornographic, dating, gambling and any content which is culturally or religiously offensive in nature or contrary to the UAE laws. As per the UAE Government, the following are deemed to be illegal use of VPN:

  1. Any content provoking online fraud, deception, theft, etc.
  2. Any content which is impersonating in nature for fraudulent purposes;
  3. Any content which permits access to others’ bank statements, accounts, date, credit or any other electronic card numbers or any electronic payments, and any confidential information;
  4. Any content which infringes one’s right to privacy, like any content or website which provides the devices for phone tapping, theft or publication of any private information; and
  5. Any content which has the information from the public or private organizations.
In UAE, some of the legal ways to use VPN services by individuals to use the blocked apps or geographically restricted content/websites is through the telecommunication services such as Du and Etisalat VPN packages, which permits the users to use mobile data or Wi-Fi to make video and audio calls internationally or access to the websites as permitted by the governing authority through the telecommunication services, any other usage of VPN which is contrary to terms and conditions set by the Cybercrime law and TRA shall be deemed to illegal use of the VPN. However, the core of imposing such strict restrictions on the usage of VPN by the UAE government is to prevent access to sacrilegious content.

Best way to use UAE law is , Get Resident Visa and Spend some days in every 183 to active your visa and Live life Tax free.
Enjoy life where you like Maldives , Seychelles and Mauritius are very near from Dubai.

you need to stay 183+ days in UAE to get your tax residency. Unless you do this, you are taxed in your home country!

There are super brave people here. In fact somebody showed me photos and videos from this "campaign". I also saw a video from another yacht "campaign" with nude girls and skyscrapers in the background. To me these are brave girls. Apparently there is a WhatsApp group circulating the details but don't ask me which, as I don't even have WhatsApp. I just know someone here who is into these lifestyle and a lot of things happen behind closed curtains. As long as it can stay behind these curtains, nothing will really happen. It's not like the police is knocking and checking who do you sleep with.

As for VPN it is highly shaped here. You need to know which providers or protocols to use and obviously majority won't. I know people using it 24/7 since many years and there wasn't even one VPN case against someone. Not to mention VPN is used also for work secure connections through which you can access unrestricted web. They warn people against using VPN for making frauds.

Did they end up in prison?
I doubt. Obviously Dubai police press release has to be issued to scare others from doing the same. I believe they will just get fined and deported and banned from re-entering the country.

Public nudity is forbidden in many countries, not only muslim countries. Look at Singapore. You can be fined and imprisoned up to 3 months for showing yourself naked in a public view on your private balcony.

So many news making headlines in Dubai and worldwide , The act are also punishable in their home country also.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/dec/29/dubai
This act are also punishable in their home country.

If this type of news come out of the Dubai , They goes out of proportion , Saying that Evening kissing in public, you ended up in Jail. I do not see any couple goes to prison for Simple kiss or hugging .
If you do something extreme , than and than they goes to Jail.

Sometime People do not get in to the detail of case .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Lee_Bradley_Brown

Classic Example is this case.

News come "The man died in Dubai in Police Custody ", People shouting "Police Brutality , Muslim Country etc "

What really happen "Brown attempted to throw the housekeeper from the internal balcony"

You understand things what's suits you, I give another perceptive , Imagine this type of accident happen in any third world country. Even if the maid may get killed nobody bother no news paper nothing,
Even some people worshiping him. In Dubai , Labour have some dignity compare to their home country. Here so many people laughed at this but , Put yourself in Labour position, You are living with some dignity compare to your home country . Housing are more better to compare to their home country.

It is all about comparison. What you compare, In Dubai labour does not have facility like US and Europe but compare to their home country, They are better.
Some people raising question about labor slavery , Their conditions are much worse in their home country . I am not justifying slavery . Sometimes In life you have to face the reality and harsh truth of life.
The type wealth of Scandinavia country resident are enjoying , Asian country never will able achieve in coming 1000 years. It is very easy to give lecture on morality and Bookish things. When you face the reality of life you will change your thought of mind.

Every family has problem .

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/09/buc...-after-harry-and-meghans-oprah-interview.html
The badmouthing about the Queen , Why western media compare her to bad person. What is the opinion about ? Same kind of stories different kind of coverage.
Why do not media make headlines that "Prince runaway from palace and Find Shelter in Los angles." It is all about who set the perceptive/agenda.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56085734
If you use your brain, You can easily get the point that "French People" and publicity hungry people are taking her advantage. It is easy to brainwash and misguide royal family prince and princess .
As they never face the harsh reality of life. Even rich people kids are easily brainwashed and people taking advantage of them . Use them for their benefit mercilessly . You can find so many stories around you. Where innocent kids of rich and powerful people, being used by shady and Bad people . If Ruler of Dubai is so evil, the News will never come out. Trust me on this .They will kill all of them on the sea. Nothing will ever come out . This is just a "drama" going on . Everybody in Dubai know that Princess has some mental problem. Now a day who does not have ?. It is like your neighbor kid throw egg on your door , There is no news but Justine biber throw egg on anyone , It will make a news.

It is about Who set the agenda , Today so many people with hunger of publicity and want to win "Noble peace prize " desire. Cut from the reality.
it is about "who set the perceptive/agenda"

I am not lawyer of anybody , Or I do not know exact things in Details . But There are always two sides to every story .

"People don't value things they can easily get".

No fines either lol @Martin Everson feels disappointed as hell :)

Your damn right I was disappointed. I was expecting them to be hung upside down and flogged with wet birch wood. Anyway glad everyone got off no pun intended smi(&%

P.S Wonder why they were let off so easily? Maybe being days away from Ramadan (Muslims holiest month) they wanted case closed and story to disappear from headlines....lol.

only for the first year and from there on you should default to it being your tax residence, right?
...taking into account that you could prove it to be your "center of life" if challenged.
